TEAM MENTORING PROGRAM

SBATSR is thrilled to be one of the pilot sites for the first national mentoring program specifically developed for young people with spina bifida. TEAM is funded through a grant from the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The mission of TEAM is to encourage independence and good health habits among teens and young adults with spina bifida while helping them realize their full potential as productive members of the community.
Issues that are especially pertinent to young people with spina bifida will be discussed, such as:
- Personal care
- Knowing how to take care of yourself
- Knowing how to work with medical professionals
- Transitioning
- Parents
- Driving
- Friendships
- Dating
- Community involvement
- Education
- Exercise
- Transportation
Participation in TEAM is open to young people with spina bifida ages 12- 24 & Mentors aged 21 or older.
