Assistive Technology

Assistive Technology (AT) is any device which

helps facilitate a person's functioning , e.g., mobility,

personal care, activities of daily living, learning, work,

recreation, etc. It can dramatically improve a person's

quality of life and level of independence.

Important considerations to ensure full benefit from

an aid include, e.g.,

1.   a well defined plan of research and advocacy

      for acquiring the equipment

2.   a good evaluation by a qualified professional

3.   a trial period before purchase, when possible

4.   thorough training in the use of the device

5.   technical assistance support.
